Desert Paws Sanctuary

A nonprofit organization

$1,975 raised by 17 donors

Desert Paws Sanctuary's mission is, "To rescue, rehabilitate, and rehome abandoned animals." The primary goals are to build a sanctuary for abandoned animals, provide education and resources to low-income communities regarding animal welfare and be able to reduce the number of abandoned animals in the Coachella Valley.

Since 2020, Desert Paws Sanctuary has provided trap and release, rescue, and adoption services for dogs and cats abandoned in "dumping sites" in the desert of the Eastern Coachella Valley in Southern California and became a recognized 501(c)3 in June 2023. Desert Paws Sanctuary partners with a local low-cost spay/neuter and vaccination organization, California Animal Network, to provide spay/neuter and vaccinations for adoptable dogs and strays. Other close partners are West Coast Boxers Rescue, Support 4 Paws, Animal Rescue of California, Loving All Animals, and Forgotten Felines Rescue. Desert Paws Sanctuary, California Animal Network, and the other partner organizations have a network of referrals and support to reach as many abandoned dogs and cats.

Desert Paws Sanctuary is comprised of four unpaid, volunteer board members and one part-time unpaid volunteer social media manager. The organization has no paid staff currently and is currently foster based and all donations go directly to the animals.

Testimonials

You see the worst of the worst in animal rescue. Dogs are surrendered or abandoned, only to end upon high-kill shelters, sometimes in deplorable conditions. Desert Paws Sanctuary has been instrumental in capturing and rescuing dogs and cats left in the desert by their owners. This nonprofit group has my complete support. Without the help of foster volunteers and donations, a rescue can only do so much. Thank you DPS.
