"GPL-Grandparents Love is dedicated to supporting grandparents who are stepping up to raise their grandchildren, despite significant financial and emotional challenges. In California alone, over 200,000 grandparents are primary caregivers, and many face income limitations. According to HARC's 2023 data, more than 25% of seniors in the Coachella Valley are living on less than $25,000 per year, and costs for caring for one grandchild can add an additional $5,492-$7,813 annually. This financial strain only grows with more grandchildren, doubling or even tripling in cost.

These grandparents receive minimal financial assistance of $300-$330 per child-significantly less than the $820 per child provided in the foster care system-despite research showing that children raised by grandparents have fewer behavior issues, feel more loved, and experience greater stability. GPL addresses these needs through our respite care services and mental health support, providing critical breaks for grandparents and counseling to help manage the stress of caregiving. Our support groups and resources empower grandparents to continue providing nurturing homes for their grandchildren, creating a stronger, more resilient community."
