CV Giving Day helps fund Palm Springs Concerts’ Student Outreach Program. Youngsters from Palm Springs Unified School District schools are bused to the Richards Center for the Performing Arts for a morning concert by our featured artists.
It’s our way of introducing them to the wonders of live classical music, which is often a new experience for many of them. 97% of families with students in the PSUSD are at the federal poverty level; thus, we are providing them with exposure to the performing arts that they likely would not have otherwise.
Students and teachers give rave reviews of the interactive concert, where musicians tailor their program to the young audience. They play selected pieces, talk about the music and composers, answer questions, and demonstrate their instruments to the children’s enthusiastic delight.
In addition, Palm Springs Concerts has begun a scholarship program to help musically inclined high school seniors fund their college or university music education.
It’s all about the music: a precious, shared cultural experience worth preserving.
